VIGIL FOR EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN TURKIYE AND SYRIA

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH - 6:00 PM TURKISH AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CHICAGO

501 Midway Dr., Mt. Prospect, IL 60056

We, at Turkish American Society of Chicago, are devastated and are mourning the thousands of lives lost and affected by the devastating earthquakes that jolted our home country, Turkiye and neighboring Syria. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed more than 6,000 people, injured more than 16,000 and toppled thousands of buildings across 10 provinces in Turkiye and beyond. The death toll continues to climb as earthquake aftershocks continue and the rescuers are searching for survivors under rubble. Victims are in dire need of basic essentials as they also fight the severe cold weather.

Turkish American Society of Chicago has teamed up with our sister organization, an international humanitarian aid organization, Embrace Relief to raise funds for the victims and are working to ensure our community members feel seen as they mourn the loss of their family members back home.

Disasters and calamities such as this tragic event that continues to take more lives by the minute, remind us that it is time to turn to Almighty God to pray for the people of Turkiye and Syria. In that regard, TASC will be hosting a Vigil on Thursday, February 9th at 6:00pm to bring our Greater Chicagoland community together to pray as one for the victims and for those who are yet to be saved from under the rubble.
